No hay porque avergonzarse. Somos unos nostálgicos por naturaleza y no lo podemos remediar. Recordamos esos programas, películas y series de televisión como si fueran la rehostia. Nos acordamos de esos días frente al televisor, con las rodillas peladas y el bocadillo de Nocilla, con una sonrisa en la cara.
Existe la posibilidad de que veamos esa misma serie, X años después, y no sepamos exactamente por qué narices nos gustaba tanto. A pesar de eso, nuestro lado nostálgico puede más que la lógica y, en alguna ocasión, acabaremos cayendo en la tentación de comprarnos esa serie en DVD. Me voy a centrar en el anime, que es lo que más conozco y sobre lo que más pruebas tengo.
De un tiempo a esta parte, algunas empresas se están subiendo al carro de los "revivals". Consiste en editar en DVD esas series, programas y películas que nos marcaron. Por ejemplo: Sherlock Holmes, Ana la de Tejas Verdes, Comando G, Heidi, Marco, La familia Robinson, etc... Se supone que es un producto dirigido a gente mayor, nostálgicos de pro que, con suerte, se lo comprarán para ellos y de paso para que lo vean sus hijos. Es un negocio redondo. Producto antiguo, normalmente, es sinónimo de producto barato. Y para los padres, saber qué ven sus hijos puede suponer un extra de tranquilidad.
Pero aquí viene el problema: la mayoría de estas ediciones no son más que los capítulos de la teleivisón puestos en un DVD. A lo bruto, con mal gusto, sin ninguna de las ventajas que te ofrece un DVD. Es como si hubieran cogido un VHS y lo hubieran volcado todo en un DVD. Y de ahí a las tiendas. Los menos informados lo verán cutre, pero no se comerán mucho más la cabeza. Los que tengan conocimientos sobre el tema, sabrán que en Japón hay versiones en DVD, pero al contrario de lo que sucede aquí, están remasterizadas, con buen audio y con algún extra si la ocasión es propicia. Una buena actualización del clásico. Algo decente. Aquí se apuesta por lo contrario. Lo cutre y lo mal hecho. Hay materiales, pero son muy caros y, para qué, si es un producto para críos y los críos lo ven todo (craso error).
Es por culpa de estas empresas que más veces de las necesarias te gastas 20 o 30 € en un DVD que no es más que un VHS volcado (véase Sherlock Holmes como prueba de lo que digo). Es entonces cuando te preguntas si no te sale más rentable bajártelo de internet, copiártelo en un CD y verlo con la misma calidad por un precio sensiblemente inferior.
Cuando ahora las empresas audiovisuales se lo están currando para ofrecer más y mejores contenidos a un precio más competitivo (sin generalizar, que seguro que hay de todo), nos encontramos con estos casos. Y, mientras tantos, las películas de Pajeros y Esteso tienen audio 5.1...

Por eso mismo, yo no me compro esa clase de anime. De todos los que has mencionado Manu el único que me interesa es Sherlock Holmes y como estoy convencido de que más tarde o más temprano acabará apareciendo una edición con un buen master me da igual que exista ese estropicio que publicó Divisa, creo recordar. No es que sea un renegado de Heidi, Marco y demás aunque en estas obras participen Miyazaki y Takahata de modo destacado, sino que no las considero obras demasiado personales, como sí lo es Sherlock o Conan, en las que la mano de Miyazaki lo impregna todo. Quizá si algún día aparecen reeditadas en condiciones Heidi y Marco, en especial esta última (las ambientaciones son puro Miyazaki), quizá me las compre, de momento una pasta que me ahorro y que invierto en otras cosas.
En cierto modo los tipos que editan estas series piensan que han cumplido con el expediente de editarlas, cubrir una enorme demanda y con ello obtener unos píngües beneficios. Además hay varias cosas, el público que compra esas series, no es el típico otaku que despotrica en todos los foros y que quiere un producto en condiciones, y con el boca a boca hay muchos que después no compran el producto por lo que dijo alguna persona de su confianza, sino que en su mayor parte son padres de familia ajenos al mundillo que no se toman la molestia a no ser que sean muy tiquismiquis con la calidad del DVD. Creo que si se despotricara tanto con la calidad de las ediciones como se hace actualmente con los precios, la cosa iría mejor.

Lo de Sherlock lo he dicho porque he leído en algún foro que Flashback Media se integró recientemente en el sello Divisa (hasta ahora sólo llevaban su distribución), en el que piensan editar anime antiguo y según dicen nos esperan sorpresas. Un tiempo antes leí en otro foro que Flashback habían conseguido un master americano de Sherlock con una calidad cristalina comparado con el que sacó Divisa de la tele. De hecho se decía que dicho master lo consiguieron incluso antes que el de Conan, pero se vieron imposibilitados a editarlo porque no poseían los derechos, que sí tenía Divisa para su cutre versión.
Por tanto, ahora que ambas empresas parece que son uña y carne no me extrañaría que sacaran una especie de "deluxe edition" o algo así con Sherlock. La esperanza es lo último que se pierde.
